Fjällnäs wins gold in Sweden and internationally for best wine list

Fjällnäs has won the international first prize for “Best Medium-Sized (Wine) List” when Star Wine List announced the world’s best wine lists on June 24. This global recognition reflects our dedication to providing exceptional wine experiences for our guests.

Fjällnäs is the only winner among the ten categories that is Swedish. Among the nominees, eight were Swedish restaurants or bars, with Operakällaren nominated in two categories.

Earlier this year, Fjällnäs won the Swedish section of the competition in the same category when the winners of the “Star Wine List of the Year Sweden 2024” were announced.

Star Wine List is the guide to the world’s best wine bars and wine restaurants.

The wine list at Fjällnäs is carefully selected and curated to complement the food and the magnificent surroundings. Head Chef Patrik Moen and Sommelier and Food & Beverage Manager Christopher Smeds Bjerlo work closely together to create an elegant and unique overall experience in Fjällnäs’ food and drink menus.

“I believe our wine selection is at a reasonable level, with a focus on offering mature wines. It is very gratifying and somewhat humbling that industry colleagues from various parts of the world value and appreciate the structure of our wine list. The hope is, of course, that our wine-drinking visitors will feel the same,” says Christopher Smeds Bjerlo, Sommelier and Food & Beverage Manager at Fjällnäs.

In the global category of “Best Medium-Sized Wine List,” Fjällnäs was one of 18 nominated restaurants and bars from various parts of the world, including South Africa, Australia, France, Germany, and the USA.

The jury’s rationale was:
“For the medium-sized list, we opted for one that impressed us with its extensive range of esteemed producers, well-judged length, and exceptional selection of wines from around the globe. The list showcased a diverse array of options that catered to various tastes and preferences, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all wine lovers.”

In the Swedish category of “Best Medium-Sized Wine List,” Fjällnäs was one of 8 nominated restaurants and bars, seven of which are in Stockholm and one in Malmö. The nominees were Agnes, Mathias Dahlgren’s Matbaren, Café Nizza, Ekstedt, Farang, Folii, Restaurang Nisch, and Bouchon (Malmö).

The jury’s rationale was:
“We decided to award this list because we found a great structure and a great complexity in the list, and a great selection of back vintages as well. And for a medium-sized list, we thought it was very complete, easy to understand, and easy to read for everyone. So well done to this restaurant,” says Salvatore Castano, Best Sommelier of Europe and Africa 2021 and part of the international jury for Star Wine List.

A big thank you to Star Wine List and to our sommelier and Food & Beverage Manager, Christopher Smeds Bjerlo, whose continuous efforts to offer unique and outstanding experiences have made this possible. We are incredibly proud and grateful for this international recognition.
